Project Title: Acquisition Avenue
Project Type: Digital 2D
Game Genre: Arcade / Puzzle
Designed For: Global Game Jam
Year(s) Produced: 2019

Concept Design Document: Design Document Coming Soon
Playable File(s): Game Jam Files [.zip, 2019]
Gameplay Description: Players take turns attempting to navigate a maze towards a goal along paths with rotating color assignments. Players can only navigate along a path when their matching color is active along that path. Traversing a path destroys that path. Players must try to collect as many dollars points on their way to a goal without stranding themselves. The next player has only what paths that remain following the previous player's actions. Score bonus for reaching your matching goal.

My Role(s): Lead Designer, Lead Programmer, Lead Artist (all assets except for background image).
About This Project: A Unity project designed during the 2019 Global Game Jam under the theme of "What home means to you". Sometimes home is a place you need to get back to after work and sometimes it is a money pit. In this game, it is both- and with literal pits.

The main gameplay element that I wanted to implement with this design involved giving the player the choice between a quick path to guarantee arriving at a goal and taking a more indirect path to acquire more dollars/points towards their total at the risk of stranding themselves and not reaching the goal (or the desired goal).

An additional strategy is provided by the alternating turns structure, as now a player can choose to take a path not because they need to, but rather to deny it to the subsequent player.

While the rotating color paths system was implemented (and timed to the music), as well as the initial player avatar setup, the actual player movement, path destruction and scoring systems were not completed before the end of the jam weekend.
